Marketta Nimo Files for Grand Prairie City Council, At-Large Place 7

January 15, 2026

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX — Marketta Nimo officially filed today for Grand Prairie City Council, At-Large Place 7, ahead of the May 2, 2026 election. Her filing kicks off an already established campaign focused on public safety, responsible spending, and quality of life for families across the city.

A lifelong Grand Prairie resident, small business owner, and community advocate, Nimo brings years of hands-on experience working with families, students, and neighborhood leaders. As a daycare owner who has served more than 700 local families and a board member of Head Start of Greater Dallas, she says her commitment to the city is rooted in service, not politics.

“I’ve spent my life working alongside families who want safe neighborhoods, affordable living, and a city that works for them,” Nimo said. “That’s why I’m running — to make sure City Hall focuses on what truly matters.”

Nimo’s campaign is built around three simple priorities residents consistently raise: safe neighborhoods, responsible spending, and smart growth that protects existing communities.

Since announcing her candidacy in November 2025, Marketta has already knocked on over 600 doors.

“Residents consistently tell me they want safe neighborhoods, streets that work, and leadership that respects their tax dollars,” Nimo said.

“Growth should improve our community, not overwhelm it. We can build a stronger future while still taking care of the people who already call Grand Prairie home,” Nimo added.

In addition to her business leadership, Nimo is active in nonprofit and volunteer work, including founding Destiny Steps of Greatness and supporting community outreach programs that provide food, school supplies, and essential services to families in need.

She has also participated in Leadership Grand Prairie, been honored twice as a Parade Marshal in the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Parade, and has been nominated by the Grand Prairie Chamber of Commerce for Small Business of the Year, Minority-Owned Business of the Year, and Woman of the Year.

Her campaign will focus on direct voter engagement, transparency, and accountability as she works to earn the trust of residents across Grand Prairie. Election Day is Saturday, May 2, 2026.
